Denison Section 4 Amanda M. Conrad 1835 - 1905 David P. Conrad 1828 - 1883
The Sunday Gazetteer Sunday, June 17, 1883 pg. 4 DROWNED IN THE STOCK POND Jack Conrad, a boy about sixteen years of age, was drowned in the cattle pond Thursday night about half past eight. Some twenty or twenty-five boys and young men were bathing, and Conrad with some others swam out to an old boat in the pond. When they came out, Conrad was the last to leave the boat. He said to the boys on the shore, "Look out, I am coming," and when close to shore sank. Robert Walker, who was present, and who gave his testimony at the inquest, says he thought he dove. In a moment he rose so that the top of his head was above water. He sank again, and the last seen of him he reached one hand partially out of the water. Young Walker dove down and tried to reach him but did not succeed, the water being about ten feet deep. The body was finally recovered by a man who swam across from the other side of the pond. The body was in the water about ten minutes. A physician was sent for, and prompt efforts were made to resussitate the body, but without success. Esquire Cook held an inquest the next morning, which developed the above facts. Fort Worth Gazette Thursday, June 8, 1893 pg. 6 News of the death of Engineer Conrad of the Katy, who died at Denison Tuesday night, was received with great regret here. He was very popular and all unite in saying that the engineers miss a popular comrade and the road a competent servant. He ran for several years between Denison and Alvarado. The Sunday Gazetteer Sunday, June11, 1893 pg. 4 RAILROAD RUMBLINGS Engineer F.M. Conrad, who died early in the week at his home on South Houston avenue, this city, had many friends in Fort Worth, so says the Fort Worth Gazette of Thursday. He was a member of the Denison lodge Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and was buried under the auspices of that body. The remains were interred in Oakwood Cemetery at 4 o'clock Wednesday evening.
