Carruth 1900 - 1966 The Denison Press Saturday, January 19, 1935 pg. 1 JAMES CARRUTH DIED FOLLOWING 2-WEEK ILLNESS James Robert Carruth, 62, retired farmer, who has resided at 1014 West Shepherd street for the past three years, died at his home at 9:30 p.m. Friday after an illness of two weeks. Mr. Carruth was born in Kentucky March 26, 1865 and received his schooling there. He married Miss Edith Eccles in Sherman in 1895. Mr. Carruth was a member of the Baptist church. Surviving are the widow; four sons, Andrew, Earl and Fred Carruth of Denison; and Alfred Carruth of Wichita Falls; four daughters, Mrs. Laura English of Fate, Texas; and Mrs. Ona Willimon of Bonham; and one sister, Mrs. Laura Cox of Granite, Oklahoma. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at Short-Murray chapel, Rev. J.F. Murrell officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery with Short-Murray funeral directors in charge. The Denison Press Friday, March 20, 1953 pg. 6 Funeral services were held at Bratcher-Moore chapel Thursday afternoon for Mrs. Sarah Edith Carruth, 79 years of age, who died suddenly at her home, 330 W. Heron, Tuesday night. Rev. Earnest Potter, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, officiated and interment was in Oakwood Cemetery. Mrs. Carruth was born in Illinois, September 22, 1873, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Echols. She was married to J.B. Carruth in 1895 and he died in 1936. She was a member of the Baptist church. Survivors include four sons, Andrew, Earl and Fred of Denison and Alfred of Wichita Falls; four daughters, Mrs. Ella Ward and Mrs. Oma Wilemon of Denison, Mrs. Laura English of Oregon and Mrs. Mary Johnson of Childress; two brothers, Cecil Echols of Winnsboro and Austin Echols of Antlers, Oklahoma; 24 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
