KATY VETERAN DIES SATURDAY IN HOSPITAL
Charles I. Turner, 77, a Katy fifty-year service veteran and a resident of Denison since 1877, died Saturday at 3 p.m. at a local hospital after an illness of several months.  Mr. Turner, who resided at 411 West Crawford, was a retired yard engineer.  He had been in the hospital since November 7.
Mr. Turner was born in London, England, December 6, 1857, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Allen Turner.  He was brought to Canada as a child and spent part of his boyhood there before going to Chicago.  Coming to Texas sixty-two years ago, Mr. Turner was employed by the Katy as a fireman after he had served in the party which laid the Katy tracks through the Indian Territory.  He was employed in the round house and later in the Katy road service.  He was awarded the Katy fifty-year service badge and was retired in 1924.
Mr. Turner married Edith Redding here May 9, 1895.  He was a life member of Verein Vorwarts, past president of Lodge No. 48 of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Engineers and a member of the W.O.W.
Surviving are the widow; two sisters, Mrs. M.M. Cooper of Kansas City, Missouri, and Mrs. Lizzie Robinson of (blank); and a number of other relatives.
Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Short-Murray chapel.  Burial was in the Oakwood Cemetery.
