Denison Section 3 Jossie FInley 1863 - 1937 Stephen Finley 1861 - 1939 The Denison Press Monday, March 8, 1937 pg. 1 MRS. R. FINLEY DIES AT EARLY HOUR MONDAY Mrs. Rebecca J. Finley, 74, 217 E. Walker street, died Monday morning at 4:30 o'clock, following an illness of several years. Death came at the family home at which point she had resided since 1888. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 from the Short-Murray chapel, with Rev. Don Harwell officiating. Interment will be at Oakwood with Short-Murray directing. Mrs. Finley was born February 7, 1863 in Marshall county, Tennessee, her parents being Mr. and Mrs. J.T. Wakefield. She was married December 30, 1880 in the county of her birth to Steve Finley, the couple coming to Texas and locating at Greenville, where Mr. Finley farmed for one year, later moving to McKinney for one year and then moving to Denison where they have resided since. Survivng are her husband; two sons, Andrew W. of Sulphur, Oklahoma; and Edgar L. of Los Angeles. A brother, Bruce Wakefield, lives at Marshall, Tennessee. Sisters are Mrs. John Rainey and Mrs. Dianna Albright of Petersburg, Tennessee; and Mrs. Dora Murdock of Simms, Texas. The Denison Press Saturday, March 11, 1939 pg. 1 FORMER RAILROAD MAN, POLICEMAN, DIES Steve Finley, 78, former city policeman, railroad man and compress watchman, died this morning at 3:30 at his home, 217 E. Walker street, following an illness of two months. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday from Short-Murray chapel followed by interment at Oakwood Cemetery. Deceased was born March 10, 1861 in Tennessee and married Miss Rebecca Wakefield there on December 30, 1880. Coming to Texas in 1885 the couple settled at Greenville, later moving to McKinney where he took up farming. Coming to Denison the same year, he joined the police force. Later he took a position with the MKT, then with a compress company. Surviving are two sons, Andrew of Sapulpa, Oklahoma and Edgar of Los Angeles; and a sister, Mrs. Della Finley of Paris. His wife died here March 3, 1937. OAKWOOD CEMETERY
