In the person of Mrs. Catherine Yawman, an old and estimable citizen passed away from earth on Saturday evening 3d inst., at 6 o'clock.  Mrs. Yawman had been confined to her home, at No. 1205 West Main street, with a dropsical affection, which inducing heart trouble, resulted in death.
Mrs. Yawman was born in Schenectedy, New York, March 1807 [sic], and was therefore in her 82nd year.  She was married to Andrew Yawman in Rochester, New York in 1826, and removed to Texas in 1881.  With her husband she settled in Denison, of which city she remained a respected resident up to the time of her death.  She had numerous connections residing in the Gate City, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, being present at her funeral.
Of her Texas connections the best known are her husband, Andrew Yawman, now in his 86th year; her daughters, Mrs.O.E. O'Maley and Mrs. Lavelle, of Denison, and Mrs. Phillips, of Dallas.  Her grandchildren, the O'Maley family and grand-son Attorney George McLagan, to whom she was a mother, he having made his home with her from infancy.
The deceased was a lady of kind and womanly impulse, generous in thought and deed, and her taking off, though not untimely, (she having reached a ripe, old age) is regretted by a large circle of friends.
The funeral took place from the Catholic church Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock, and the procession which followed the hearse to Calvary cemetery [sic] was one of the largest seen in the city for many months.

IN MEMORY OF MRS. CATHERINE YAWMAN
by M. E. M.

We have lived together my darling,
fifty-six years of our life,
And you have ever been to me
A true, unselfish wife.

Together we shared life's pleasure,
Together we shared its woe,
Together we watched our children
To men and women grow.

Then grand children came to bless us,
And great grand children too,
We shared their smiles and caresses,
I was happy, and so were you.

But cruel death took you from me,
Oh! why should this be so,
Having lived so long together,
Together we desired to go.

Oh, I am so lonely, dear Katie,
How I miss your sweet, kind face,
The children endeavor to comfort me,
But nothing can fill you place.

But I will be patient, my darling,
For ere long I will also go,
To dwell with you forever,
In that home devoid of woe.
