Walton 15 September 1861 - 9 January 1906 The Sunday Gazetteer Sunday, January 14, 1906 PROF. D.W. WALTON DEAD Prof. D.W. Walton (col.) who has for many years been teacher in the colored schools, died Tuesday of paralysis. Prof. Walton was one of the most highly respected colored men who has ever lived in Denison. As an educator he stood very high and his death is severe blow to the colored schools. He was a resident of Denison for a period of over 20 years. He was a much respected by white people as his own color. He always took an active part in measures looking to the welfare of his people. The funeral in spite of the terrible weather, was one of the largest even seen in the city. He was buried under the auspices of the Odd Fellows and Knights of Pythias. The deceased leaves a wife and family. The Denison Press Thursday, May 27, 1937 pg. 1 DENISON 62-50-35 YEARS AGO May 27, 1887 - The colored schools were closed Thursday out of respect to Mr. Walton, the Principal, and to permit the pupils to attend the funeral of his child.
