The Denison Press Thursday, December 22, 1938 pg. 1 YOUTH, 12, FOUND HANGED IN GRANDMOTHER'S BARN Mother Finds Body of Son After He Fails To Respond To Calls To Come TO Meal Ted Brewer, 12, grandson of Mrs. Mollie Fields, was found dead at his grandmother's home, 228 E. Heron Street, late Wednesday afternoon, hanging from a rafter in the barn. According to reports, the youth came home late from school, informed his mother he was hungry and was told to go to the barn and bring in firewood. When he did not come back into the house his mother thought he had gone to other parts of the neighborhood to play marbles with companions. Later, his mother becoming worried, over his not reappearing, started calling him from the back porch. When no answer came, she went to the barn looking for him. Removing his body from the sash noose the mother carried it outside the barn. Neighbors, attracted by the screams, joined her. Unnerved by the experience, the mother could not give a connected story to authorities this morning. Physicians, examining the body, said the neck was not broken, and that the youth evidentally had been strangled to death. Young Brewer was born here August 12, 1926, and was a student in the sixth grade at Lamar ward school. He attended Sunday School at the Free Will Baptist church. Surviving is his mother, Mrs. Ethyl Cowling of Denison; his father, Bert Brewer of Whitewright; and his grandmother; a brother, Pete Brewer of Denison, and a half brother Earl Cowling of Denison. Funeral services will be held at 4:30 p.m. today at the Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. W.V. McPhail officiating. Interment will be held at Oakwood cemetery, Short-Murray directing. Unnerved OAKWOOD CEMETERY
