MRS. MARY C. SMITH DEAD
Mrs. Mary C. Smith died at the home of her son, J.H. Smith, 215 West Main street, January 17, at 6 o'clock a.m., at the age of 71.
Mrs. Smith had been ill for more than a year, and had been confined to her room for about 10 days; her death was not unexpected.
She was born in Howard county, Missouri in 1850, March 14; her mainden name being Cooper.  The old Cooper fort was built by her grandfather in the first settling of Missouri, when the Indians were always hungry for the prey of the white man.  She was married in 1854 to P.V. Smith whose death occurred 3 years ago.  Four children blessed their union, all being sons, and all are living.  J.H. Smith, at whose home she has lived for the last 12 years, was the only one with her at the time of death.
Mrs. Smith was a member of the Baptist church, having been a consistent member for the last 52 years and a faithful follower of Christ.  She came to Denison 12 years ago in October and has lived here most of the time since.
Her funeral too place Monday at 3 o'clock from the family residence.  Interment in Oakwood Cemetery.
