Denison The Sunday Gazetteer Sunday, April 12, 1891 DIED AT THE DEPOT Tom Randel, a negro man some 45 or 50 years of age, died on the Union depot platform in this city. He was under arrest and was in charge of Sherif Nunn, of Brazos county, and was en route to Bryan, where he stands charged with cattle theft. About 2 years ago Randel was arrested on the charge stated but made good his escape. He went direct to the Territory, locating near Eufaula. Two weeks ago he sent for his family, and their removal was the occasion and clue leading to his location and arrest. Sheriff Nunn secured from the proper authorities extradition papers and Tuesday evening found him at Eufaula ready to serve them. Randel was in bed sick with pneumonia, but the attending physicia gave it as his opinion that he was able to make the journey. Tuesday night at 11 o'clock he was delivered to the sheriff at the depot by officers of the Territory, and at 4 in the morning they arrived in Denison. During the journey the prisoner gew worse rapidly, and while being carried from the M., K. & T. train to that of the Central he breathed his last. Justice Hughes held an inquest and rendered a verdict in accordance with the facts as given above. The remains were turned over to Undertaker Harriman and were buried Wednesday evening in Oakwood Cemetery. Sheriff Nunn remained in the city until 3 o'clock in the afternoon, when he left for home.
