Denison The Sunday Gazetteer Sunday, May 3, 1903 pg. 4 RAILROAD RUMBLINGS Early Sunday morning a bad wreck occurred on the Choctaw division of the M.K. & T railway at the Ray cut off, about four miles north of the city. Engineer John E. Nelson was so badly injured that there is little hope of his recovery. A freight train in charge of Engineer Nelson was moving in on the Ray cut off, was not yet in the clear, when another engine moving in the opposite direction struck it causing the first to turn over. Engineer Nelson was caught beneath the falling engine and bruised in a terrible manner, sustaining servere internal injuries. His head is so badly mashed that blood issues from ears, nose and mouth. The engine and tender of his train were a total wreck and the track was badly torn up necessitating the use of the Frisco track to Red River bridge all day Sunday.... John E. Nelson, the engineer so badly injured in Sunday morning's wreck at the Ray cut off is still alive, but in critical condition. OAKWOOD CEMETERY
