Denison OBITUARY Dies on the morning of the 13th of April, 1885, at home in this city, Mrs. Mary E. Durland. Mrs. Durland was born in Johnson county, Indiana, August 17, 1857; united with the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in 1879; was married November 30, 1880 in Appleton, St. Clair county, Missouri to Solon Durland. She spent most of her married life in Denison, Texas, where she made many friends; for none knew her but to love her, and many there are to extend to the bereaved husband and sisters the voices of sympathy. It was the good fortune of the writer to live in the same yard with them, and had ample opportunity to become acquainted with her as a friend and neighbor, and can truthfully say that she filled the measure in all that the term means. She was a woman of strong convictions of right and wrong. She was ever ready to openly declare her decision, and hold with firmness to her conviction of the right, which gave to her the reverance of her friends, yet it could not be said of her that she was arbitrary in disposition; for with all she was gentle and kind, ever ready to minister to the wants of the poor, and manifested as untiring vigilance at the bedside of the sick. She leaves her husband and a babe of 2 weeks old to meet beyond the river. Her first born, little Carl, a bright little boy, died something over a year ago. Thus the family is divided - two are here on the shores of Time, two have passed beyond the river of Death. Sad is the thought, and while we draw the drapery of mourning around us, and store away the keepsakes of thy fond memory, we fell the pangs of an aching void, that no friend's voice of sympathy can soothe, for we miss thee. No more will the sound of thy quick foot-step fall on our ear. No more will they voice and smile greet us here. The house is lonely now, and we must bow the head in sorrow, pass under the rod and bid thee farewell. In peace be thy rest; calm be thy sleep, Fare-the-well! OAKWOOD CEMETERY
