RAILROAD RUMBLINGS
A fatal accident occurredat the Main street corssing of the Katy at 7 o'clock Tuesday evening.  A caboose and 2  or 3 freight  cars  were being backed through the yards, when a white man  carrying a b undle was seen struggling across the tracks.  The flagman shouted to him as did the brakeman, but the warnings either did not reach him or came too late.  A caboos s truck him and dragged him 20 f eet  before the train could be stopped. His head was badly lacerated, one foot mashed and he received internal injuries of a fatal c  haracter.  He gave the name of John Williams, but was unable to tell where he comes from.   Dr. Acheson was immediately summoned and t he wounded man was c onveyed, first to the freight depot and then to the O.K. restaurant, 110 Main street. At 8:40 o'clock he q uietly closed his eyes and the attendants supposed he had fallen asleep.  Dr. Acheson held the hand of the wounded man and, without a murmur or a struggle the pulse sank, softer and softer and then all was over.
The remains were removed to the undertaking house of I. Lindsey and, during the morning  Wednesday quite a large  number o f people called. The body, however, was not recognized and Wednesday evening it was interred in Oakwood cemetery.  Just after he was knocked down he stated that his name w as John Williams and that he had worked on a Katy section.  He carried a small bundle of clothing, and from  their appearance he must have been a miner.
