Denison The Sunday Gazetteer Sunday, September 22, 1895 pg. 2 Casualty Record Saturday evening last between four and six o'clock, Mr. John C. Freeman, aged 26 to28 years, died alone in his room at No. 1004 West Gandy street. Mr. Freeman was night clerk at the George Braun restaurant, which position he had filled for two or more years. Friday he was up and attending to his business as usual. He drew $2 in cash from his employer Friday morning and during the afternoon accompanied two lady friends to the circus. He went on duty at the usual hour Friday evening but during the night was taken seriously ill and was compelled to go home. Saturday he was visited by Mr. Braun and at 2 p.m. Dr. Nagle called. At that time he was suffering from an unusually high feve.r The doctor left medicine and instructions and intended returning at 6 o'clock. Mr. Freeman roomed at the residence of Mr. John Owens, an employee at the M., K. & T., and Saturday morning he inquired of Freeman how he was getting along. The reply was, "Very well, I expect to be up and at work tonight." Mr. Owens went on to his work and during the day Mrs. Owens went out to her mother's, two miles in the country, to get some chickens. On her return just before 6 o'clock she noticed Mr. Freeman lying across the bed in a peculiar position and examination revealed the fact that he was dead. The findings of the coroner was that the death was caused by congestion and excessive heat from fever. The remains were interred Monday in Oakwood. About one year ago Mr. Dave Freeman, a brother to the deceased was killed in an accident at the cotton seed oil mills west of the city. The father to the young men resides at Pilot Hill, Washington county, Tennessee. Mr. George Braun defrayed the expenses of the funeral. OAKWOOD CEMETERY
