Mrs.
J.W. Scott, 86-year-old pioneer resident of the Oak Ridge community
where she made her home 67 years, died at her home 7 miles east of
Denison Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock after a lingering illness. Mrs. Scott, affectionately known as "Aunt Matilda" in her home community, was born in Lawrence county, Missouri and came to the Oak Ridge vicinity at the close of the Civil War. Her marriage to J.W. Scott took place east of Denison on July 13, 1868. Surviving are one son, J.T. Scott, 411 W. Gandy St.; a daughter, Mrs. Maggie Mathes, 915 W. Sears St.; 5 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Funeral services were held at the Oak Ridge Baptist Church Wednesday afternoon with burial following in the Oak Ridge Cemetery. W.H. Halton, funeral director, will be in charge.
