Margaret A. Russell 1925 - 2009 John L. Russell 1922 - 2008 The Herald Democrat September 30, 2008 John Landon Russell was born April 3, 1922 to Fannie Mae and William Nelson Russell in Durant, Oklahoma. He passed away on September 29, 2008. John was cremated September 29 and memorial services were held on October 4 at Oakridge Baptist Church in Denison. John's trade was construction which he learned from his father. He spent several years in the Navy as a Seabee. He was preceded in death by two infant siblings, Nadine and Willie James Russell; his parents; brother, L. C.; sisters, Lutie Belle Pipkins and Lola Mae Bergman; and his second wife Doris Brown Russell who bore 5 of his 6 children. John is survived by his wife of 50 years, Margaret Starr Russell; brother, L. C.; sisters, Deloris Atkins, Altha Ellington and his children, Anita, Gail, John, Linda, Jerry and Virginia The Herald Democrat February 15-16, 2009 Margaret Starr Russell was born January 25, 1925 in Merriam, Nebraska, to Orvel and Annabell Starr. She was raised on a ranch near Martin, South Dakota. As a young woman she went to Hanford, Washington and worked in the investigation department at the atomic bomb plant. She later moved to Texas where she met and married her husband of 50 years, John Landon Russell, who preceded her in death, a little more than four months ago. Margaret accomplished many things in her lifetime. She worked payroll, bookkeeping, and painting as professions. Margaret and her husband tended three large gardens, canning and sharing all their crops with family, friends, and neighbors. She loved and nurtured, and helped raise her husband's five children and they raised one grandson as their own. Margaret and her husband were active members of Oakridge Baptist Church and served in many areas there over the years. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Russell; and her sister, Dorthy Phipps; of Martin, South Dakota. She is survived by her sister, Carol Livermont; nieces, Leola Harkins, Maxine Jacob; nephews, Kenny and Terry Livermont, and Jerry Phipps; step-children, Anita Hook, Gail Crouch, John N. Russell, Linda Barcheers, Jerry Russell, Virginia Hunt Kaufman; 15 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 2 great-greatgrandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Margaret's wishes were to be cremated. Memorial services were held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, February 21 at Oakridge Baptist Church in Denison. Margaret was a kind, loving and caring person. She was very loved and will be greatly missed. Her family would like to extend a special thanks to Heart to Heart Hospice for making her last days as peaceful and comfortable as possible.
