If anyone danced into Heaven, it was Lynda Kay Shires Fulce. She had a way of making an entrance, starting with her arrival as the first New Year's baby on January 1, 1943 in Mead, Oklahoma. She was the fourth of 6 children born to Glen Wilson and Dorothea Peppers Shires. She passed away on February 17, 2022 at home. She was 79 years of age. When Lynda Kay was 7 years old, she contracted polio and nearly died. Always a fighter at heart, she survived the life-changing illness by spending time in an iron lung and with treatment at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital in Dallas. Time away from her family marked her for life, and Lynda Kay became resilient in the face of adversity. She had many health complications over the years that were exacerbated by post-polio syndrome, but she never let it keep her from living an abundant life. Lynda Kay attended Denison schools before marrying Elmer Eugene Fulce on September 9, 1960. She later earned her GED the same year her eldest son graduated high school in 1980 - an accomplishment that brought her great pride. Lynda Kay was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a room mother when her children were in school and also served as a leader for children's groups in the churches the family attended. In addition to her own family, she opened her heart and home by providing childcare and emergency placement care to several other children, all of whom were loved by "Mama Lynda." Her love of family expanded as she welcomed her children's spouses and siginificant others. When some of those partnerships ended, Lynda Kay continued to love her "un-laws" while welcoming new in-laws in equal measure. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lynda Kay was a hard worker. As a young married woman, she helped her husband and brother-in-law with their paper routes. Later she provided childcare at her home and in church nurseries. She cooked meals for school children and Wednesday night church services. She was president of the Denison TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) chaper for many years. A creative soul, Lynda Kay made gorgeous quilts and enjoyed other handwork. She purchased a kiln, and fired and painted ceramics from dolls to dishes. She dabbled in jewelry making, scrapbooking, and other crafts. She also was a cake decorator and made beaugiful wedding cakes for her children, nieces and nephews as well as all-occasion cakes for friends, family and customers. She was a collector. Lynda Kay loved all her dolls, dishware, fabric, quilting and sewing notions, Pillsbury items and bird feeders and yard decor. However, her favorite collection was friends. She enjoyed her quilt group, TOPS ladies, and dear friends from across the years. Lynda Kay is survived by her husband of nearly 62 years, of Denison; her children: son, Glen Wesley Fulce and wife, Dianna, of Allen; and daughters, Eugenia Kayleen Fulce Evans and Jennifer Fulce Smitherman, both of Denison. Grandchildren: Garrett Fulce and fiancee Alyssa Sandersen of Austin; and Kelbe Smitherman, LaKeshia Evans; Kamen Smitherman; Casey Evans; Kissimmee Smitherman and Kambree Thomas, all of Denison. Great-grandchildren: Emma Robinson; Ethan Robinson; Evan Robinson; Taylor Phillips; Leslie Phillips and Kloee Evans, all of Denison. Lynda Kay is also survived by siblings: Ora Dale Woods and Gayle Shires, both of Denison; and Janell Amos of Missouri; her lifelong best friend, Judy Smith of Denison; and her "un-laws" Elizabeth Johnson Fulce; Carlos Smitherman; and Ricky Thomas, all of Denison; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; stillborn son, Ronald Eugene Fulce; and brothers, Glen "Pinky" Shires and Gaylon Shires. Funeral service celebrating Lynda Kay's life was held Tuesday afternoon, February 22, 2022 at Trinity Lighthouse Church with Rev. Raymond England officiating. Interment at Oakridge Cemetery followed the service. Pallbearers were son, Glen Fulce; grandchildren, Kelbe Smitherman, LaKeshia Evans, Garrett Fulce, and Kamen Smitherman, and Carlos Smitherman. We do not grieve as those without hope for we know that Lynda Kay is healed and whole with her Savior Jesus Christ. We will see her again when she runs to greet us at Heaven's gates. If you declare with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. - - - Romans 10: 9-10 For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoeve believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to comdemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through Him. - - - John 3:16-17 ----Fisher Funeral Home Oakridge Cemetery Susan Hawkins © 2024 If you find any of Grayson CountyTXGenWeb links inoperable, please send me a message. |
