Donald Ray "Red" Teel, 78, went to be with his Lord Jesus Christ on February 3, 2021 in Denison, Texas after a year long battle with cancer.
He was born March 1, 1942 in Cobb, Oklahoma, son of Bobby Ray and Ruby Burcham Teel, the third of four children .  He was a 1959 graduate of Cobert High School where he played baseball and was in FFA.  He attended Southeastern Oklahoma State and Grayson County Community College.
He married Ruby Dutton on January 28, 1961 in Durant, Oklahoma.
In November 1960 he began his career in making PVC pipe at Johns-Manville in Denison, Texas.  Throughout the 1970s he would travel to Canada, Arizona, Oregon, Iowa, North  Carolina and Florida, setting up and working at various plants.  He lived in Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado and Tennessee while working for Johns-Manville.  He also worked briefly in 1975-1976 for Gifford-Hill in Brinkley, Arkansas.  In 1982 he went to work for Robintech/Quail Plastics in Wichita Falls, Texas.  In 1987 he relocated to High Springs, Florida to be production manager for Carlon, manufacturing PVC conduit.  He retired in 2005 after being in plastics for over 40 years.  He returned to Texas and did part-time seasonal survey work for the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture doing this for 15 years until the Pandemic began in March 2020.
He and his wife attended the Pottsboro Church of Christ.
In January 1966 Don was drafted into the United States Army.  He went through basic training at Fort Polk, Louisiana, then engineering school at Fort Leonard-Wood, Missouri.  He was then briefly stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky.  Around September 1966 he left San Diego, California aboard the Simon B Buckner on a 29-day cruise to the Republic of South Vietnam.  He was a combat engineer in the 27th Engineer Battalion and built the base camp Blackhorse near Xuan Loc.  The battalion was responsible for clearing jungle, constructing housing, airfield construction, building roads, bridges and tactical support for the 11th Armored Cavalry.  He received the Army Commendation Medal for his part in Operation Port Sea in Spring of 1967.  He was classified as a sharpshooter with the M-14.  He returned stateside in September 1967 and was stationed in Kalispell, Montana.  He left the Army with the rank of Staff Sergeant E-6.
Don is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ruby, of Pottsboro; son, Donald Ray "Bucky" Teel, Jr. and wife, Cindi, of Wichita Falls; grandsons Joshua Ferguson and wife, Vella; and Jordan Ferguson and wife, Jordan; and great-grandchildren, Adalyn, Ian, Lyric, and Wyatt.  Also survived by his "mom" Patsy Young of Colbert, Oklahoma; siblings, Cheryl Standifer; Joe Bob Young and wife, Jennifer; Robin Weatherly and husband, Ron; Van Young and wife, Myrna; Kelli Grey and husband, Kevin; sisters-in-law, Kathy Gordon and Joyce Dutton; brothers-in-law, Robert Dutton and wife, Janie; Stanley Dutton; Larry Dutton; nieces, Angela Walston, Lisa Gordon; Stacy Teel; Tammy Daniel; Gwen Smith; Robbie Barloe and Deni Jo Baker; nephews, Danny Gordon; David Teel; Kris Teel; Josh Baker; life-long friends, Winston and Betty Mosse; and Wayne Weger.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Jesse Benard; brothers, Bill Teel, and Wayne Teel; foster father, Joe Don Young; sisters-in-law, Barbara Dutton and DiAnna Baker; brothers-in-law, Lonnie Dutton; Don Dutton; Bobby Lee Dutton; Greg Baker; nephews, Anthony Dutton; Kevin Teel; Clay Standifer; and Hank Young.
Graveside services were held Saturday morning, February 6, 2021 at Mt. Tabor Cemetery.
