Mt.
Carmel Cemetery, about three-quarters of a mile west of Desert, was
established around 1858. There were about 100 burial sites,
dating from J. Morrison's in 1858, followed by Elizabeth Morrison and
Jon S. McCollom in 185. J.S. and M.A. McCollom buried 3 more
children at Mt. Carmel - 12-year-old WIlliam in 1870, 9-year-old Url in
1876, and 8-year-old Missouri in 1887. After the opening of the
Crossroads Cemetery in 1892, there were still a few interments at Mt.
Carmel.
