Hershell Guthrie

Hershell Guthrie was born 13 Aug 1913 in Tom Bean, TX and served in the US Army from 16 Jul 1940 to 29 Sep 1945.
During WW II, he served in the Pacific Theater in the 5th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division which, in 1943, dismounted their horses and continued distinguished service as 'foot-soldier' Infantry. The 1st Cavalry Division served under General Douglas MacArthur and was involved in invasions of several Pacific Islands early during the war and was then most notably involved in the 'Return to the Philippines' beginning in late 1944 with General MacArthur.
