My uncle, Lloyd Cunningham
died in the same air attack and plane crash that Weldon Elliott died on
07 November 1944 in the Philippines. Through the Internet (bulletin boards,
guestbooks, etc.) I have come into contact with Tony Brickner (whose wife
Aimee's family was in the Philippines and witnessed the plane crash
and buried the bodies) and Mindy (Cardwell) McDowell (whose father Leo
Cardwell survived, but has since passed). We are looking for any/all
other surviving crew members and/or their families. Mindy, in particular,
would like to find Richard E. Davis and/or his survivors.
I have been interested in Weldon Elliott,
as I would like to make sure that his family knows of the kindness of Aimee's
family.
Also, Mindy has provided some pictures
- some with identification, some not. It's possible that Weldon Elliott
is one of the unidentified persons in one of those pictures.
I am also very interested in finding
Dale Covert, whose parents lived in Hutchinson, KS - at least for some
time around 1945. A narrative he provided of the incident was in
the local newspaper at that time: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Estates/2510/dcovert.txt
NOTE: The "upper turret gunner"
was Weldon Elliott.
