Roscoe C. Riddle 27 October 1892 - 23 December 1950 Roscoe Conklin Riddle was born on October 27, 1892 in Thurber, Erath, Texas. He was the son of John H. Riddle (formerly of Buckingham, Virginia) and Minnie Orviss Riddle (formerly of Walker County,Texas). He was raised in Denison, Texas. He married Marie Antoinette Harper of Tuskegee, Alabama in 1927. Roscoe and Marie had 2 daughters, Edwina Marie and Gladys Frank. Dr. Riddle authored more than three treatises in the field of medicine; he was educated in Bishop College, Northwestern University and Meharry Medical college. He was an Army medical officer in World War I. For some years he was surgeon-in-chief of Sons and Daughters of Mercy hospital in Denison, Texas. Around 1945, he and his family relocated to Benton Harbor, Michigan where he was a physician and surgeon. While in Benton Harbor, Dr. Riddle served as chairman of the executive committee of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. He died on 23 December 1950 in Benton Harbor, Berrien, Michigan. He was buried in Magnolia Cemetery, Denison, Grayson County, Texas.
