E.E. "Budge" Miller of 450 Joseph Street died at his home at 3:20 a.m. Friday, October 5, 1984. Funeral services were held Saturday morning in Longe Chapel of First United Methodist Church by Dr. Hooper Haygood. Burial was in Magnolia cemetery under the direction of Broussard's Mortuary. Mr. Miller was born September 26, 1906 in Denison, Texas and came to Beaumont in 1946 to head the division of vacations at Lamar Jr. College. The vocational school at that time occupied one building and there were 191 students enrolled with 5 faculty members. On his retirement in 1969 the School of Vocations had an enrollment of 1,820 students and a faculty of 65. He was a pioneer in vocational education departments in the schools where he taught in La Grange, Taylor, and Denison, Texas. He established the first licensed vocational nursing training in a Texas college at Lamar. Mr. Miller was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the down town Lion's Club. Survivors include his wife, Ida Lee; his nephews, Jim Miller of Hewitt, Texas and Don Queen of Baytown, Texas; his nieces, Johanna Morisey of Waco, Texas; Paulette Middleton of Boulder, Texas; Betsy Armstrong of New York City; Beryle Mack of Houston, Texas; Benne Arnold of New Braunfels, Texas; his sisters-in-law, Grace Bauer of Beeville, Texas; Frankie Bentrup of Austin, Texas; and a brother-in-law, Paul Bauer of Beeville. Pallbearers were Darwin Kirksey, G.A. Wimberly, Joe Robles, Edward Turner, Marne Meynig, Jr., and Ellis Thompson, Edward Rollins, Gus Carlsen, Emmett Black, Preston Schoppe, Dr. J.C. Crager, Dr. Dan J. Harmon, John E. Gray, Dan Rogas, Joe Sitton, Howard Burris, Buddy Tribble, Sam Lucia, and Willie Walker have been designated as honorary pallbearers.
