Wednesday, September 4, 1940 pg. 1 Mrs. J.W. Lankford, 74, a resident of Denison 59 years, died this morning at 10:30 at a local hospital following an illness since Saturday afternoon. Her home was on route 1, Denison. Funeral services to be in charge of Short-Murray are incomplete. Mrs. Lankford is a member of the Methodist church at Messenzer chapel, her former home. She was born at Carry [sic], Ohio, November 30, 1866 as Miss Carrie Nye and was reared and educated there. She was married to Mr. Lankford, April 25, 1881 at Battle Creek, Michigan. Surviving are 2 sons, W.W. of Wichita Falls and J.L. of Denison; 2 daughters, Mrs. Ruth Deckett [sic] of Denison and Mrs. Emily Lynch of Independence, Missouri; one brother, Frank Nye of Webb City, Missouri; one sister, Mrs. George Stephey, Mt. Vernon, Ohio; 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. The Denison Press Wednesday, September 5, 1940 pg. 1 Funeral services for Mrs. J.W. Hargrove Grounds officiating. Interment will be a t lankford cemetery, 4 miles east of Denison, Short-Murray directing. Pallbearers will be J.C. Foust, Buster Pound, A. Schodl, Horace Foster, Dan Bailey, H.L. Shoffer, M.T. Stanford and Dan Sammon.
