SMOTHERED IN COTTON  - THE SAD FATE OF RAYMOND, THE FIVE-YEAR-OLD SON OF DICK MATFIELD (sic).
IN INNOCENT PLAYFULNESS

He burrowed Down into Loose Seed Cotton and was Suffocated.  He was Beyond Resuscitation When Found.

Raymond, the five-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Dick Hatfield, who reside two and a half miles west of Sherman was found dead of suffocation in a wagon of loose seed cotton last evening about sunset. His feet and ankles were seen sticking out of the cotton by the rest of his body was covered.
A half hour before the body was found he asked his mother to let him play in the cotton wagon. When he failed to come home a search was instituted and the body found. The supposition is that the little fellow burrowed out a hole in the cotton and went down into it head first and perhaps becoming frightened at finding it hard to get out lost all presence of  mind and in his struggles caused the loose cotton to pile in on him with fatal results.
He was the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. E. Bonchard of South Montgomery street.
