Hazel Irene Tullis 11 May 1931 - 16 October 2008 The Herald Democrat October 19-20, 2008 Hazel Irene Tullis, 77, passed away in her sleep after a long illness on October 16, 2008, in Sherman. Dannel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Graveside services were held at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, October 20, at Holloway Cemetery, with Rev. Robert Bernard of Grapevine officiating. Pallbearers were grandsons and nephews. Hazel was born in Sherman, on May 11, 1931, to Ernest and Ruby Smith Alexander. In 1950, she married Jack Tullis in Ft. Worth. He worked in the aerospace industry, and in 1956 they moved to San Diego, California, where he worked for Rohr Aero Space/Boeing as a design engineer. Hazel became a travel agent, at first assisting her husband in making travel arrangements for company employees and their families. As her business grew, she developed a reputation for superior service, always visiting in advance the locations her clients wanted to tour and making contacts and arrangements personally. In 1989 she moved to Sherman to be near her sister Mary Armstrong. She was an avid bridge player with Duplicate bridge group. She loved to tell stories of her travels. They were really interesting the first and second time around! Hazel and Mary enjoyed running around together, visiting family, and "garage sale"ing. Her later years were spent in her home in care of her son, Tim. She was a member of Luella Baptist Church. Hazel was preceded in death by her parents and a brother and a sister. Survivors include sons, John Tullis of San Diego; Boyd Tullis of North Carolina; and Charles Tullis of Sherman; grandchildren; Eric, Justin, and Alyssia; great-granddaughter Audrey Grace Tullis, a brother, Charles Alexander of Grand Prairie; and three sisters, Mary Armstrong of Sherman; Joyce Cryer of Grand Prairie; and Sue Works of San Antonio.
