Holloway 18 January 1912 - 14 March 1990 Tech Sergeant US Army Air Corps WWII The Herald Democrat September 12, 2012 Bertha Ann Holloway, 101, passed away on Monday, September 10, 2012 at Garnet Hill Rehabilitation and Skilled Care in Wylie. She was born on November 3, 1910 in Fannin county, daughter of William Thomas and Sarah Elizabeth Bradshaw. She attended school in the Bailey area where she grew up. On March 6, 1946 Bertha was united in marriage to the love of her life, J.B. Holloway in Sherman. They resided in Sherman where their 2 children were born. When her children were small, she stayed at home with them. However, she had many jobs throughout her life, including working at Poole Manufacturing, J.C. Penney, and being an Avon representative. For many years preceding her retirement, she worked in the cafeteria at Crutchfield Elementary school, where her children attended. Bertha was a longtime member of Key Memorial United Methodist Church in Sherman. Bertha lived a remarkable life, through two World Wars, the Great Depression and typhoid fever. Having appendicitis at about the age of 14, she underwent surgery at home on the kitchen table after her parents brought the doctor from town by horse and wagon.. Bertha is survived by her son and wife, Thomas C. and Elizabeth Holloway of Murphy; her daughter and husband, Sarah and Glenn Sonnenberg of Woodland Park, Colorado; 4 grandchildren, Thomas Holloway, Jr,; and Jennifer Holloway-Bruce, both of Murphy; Evan Sonnenberg of Al Hofuf, Saudi Arabia; and Krisin Sekelsky of Stuttgart, Germany. She is also survived by 2 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Bertha was preceded in death by her husband; one brother; 2 sisters; and an infant brother, sister, and great-grandchild. Funeral services were held September 15 in Waldo Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Jim Welch officiating. Interment was in Holloway Cemetery in Luella. Serving as pallbearers were family members. Services were under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home Sherman - Funeral for J.B. Holloway, 78, of Sherman, who died Wednesday in a Sherman hospital, were in Waldo Funeral Home Chapel; burial was in Holloway Cemetery. Holloway was born January 18, 1912 in Grayson County, son of John and Martha Holloway. He married Bertha Bradshaw March 6, 1946. Holloway farmed east of Sherman for a short time and worked at the Sherman Post Office from 1960 until several years ago. He graduated from Howe High School in 1929 and attended Draughn's Business School in Dallas. Holloway served in World War II in the Army Air Corps and received numerous distinguished medals. He was also a member of Key Memorial Methodist Church. Survivors are his wife of Sherman; son, Thomas of Dallas; daughter, Sarah Sonneberg of Royse City; 2 brothers, Ben of Clyde and John Paul of Grapevine; sister Reba Low of Tom Bean; and 4 grandchildren.
