Wynona Harrell loved her family, loved children, loved serving those in need, but most of all, she loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She went to meet Him on Monday, November 16, 2015 surrounded by her husband and children following an eight-year battle with cancer. She was 82 years old. Wynona was born in Sherman, Texas on October 19, 1933 to Darrell and Eunice Hopson. She spent a joyful childhood in Sherman alongside her brother, Wayne, and graduated from Sherman High School in 1952. Her school years were marked by a love for dance, serving as drum majorette and close friendships she maintained for a lifetime. Her first job was as an accounting clerk at Whites Auto Store before serving as an executive secretary at Hardwicke-Etter, manufacturer of cotton gins. Wynona married Charles Robert Harrell on August 28, 1954. They lovingly cared for each other for 61 years. To their union were born four children, Laurie Kay, Charles Robert Jr, William Randall and Eric Wayne. Their family life took them from Sherman to Killeen and finally to Temple in 1972, where she was an active member of the Northside Church of Christ for 43 years. Wynona had a heart for children. She was considered a second mom to many and spent countless hours volunteering in schools and teaching Bible classes. Even through her protracted illness she continued teaching her beloved Bible class for two-year olds. She was known for her generous hospitality and exceptional entertaining. She knew how to throw a party. She was an easy laugher, a crafter, a wonderful cook always ready to try a new recipe, and a patient listener. Her favorite thing to do in this world was spend time with her precious family; her photo albums are full of their adventures together, including travels to all 50 states. Her eight grandchildren knew her as “Nana” and they were the light of her life. She was a living example of Proverbs 31: A woman of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies…She is clothed with strength and dignity…She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue… Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her. Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all. Wynona was preceded in death by her parents and her brother. Survivors include her husband, Charles; daughter, Laurie Aldriedge and husband Marshall of Garland; sons Robert of Colleyville; Randy and wife Kerri of Temple; Eric and wife Holly of Chesapeake, Virginia; grandchildren, Stephen, Hunter, Tyler and Christine Aldriedge; Nathan, Grant, Naomi and Judah Harrell.
