The young man with several companions was engaged in seining. The water was not deep and young Martin was wading the stream hauling the seine. Suddenly he stepped into a hole that was beyond his depth and was carried from his feet by the current. He was not able to swim and at once became frightened. Two of his companions realizing his plight went to his assistance but in drowning the boy's exertions to save himself imperiled his companions. Both of them were pulled under by Martin's desperate attempts to save himself and the two rescurers were compelled to leave the young man to his fate in order to save themselves from drowning. An hour after Martin went down for the last time, his body was recovered from the creek. The remains were taken to the home of the unfortunate man's parents, where the funeral was held this afternoon. Carl Haizlip Martin 10 November 1900 - 15 March 1991 Una B.
