J.M. Holloway August 1815 - 18 September 1905 "J.M. Holloway." The Biographical Souvenir of the State of Texas, pg.568 Sherman,
Texas, Sept. 18 - This morning at 8:30 o'clock J.M. Holloway, Sr., one
of the oldest residents of Grayson County, died at the advanced age of
more than 90 years. He began to decline a week since and the
collapse, while gradual, has been steady and irrestible. He was a native of South Carolina but went with his parents to Alabama when a small boy. Later in life he became a citizen of Louisiana but moved from that state to Texas and settled on his present homestead 8 miles southeast of Sherman in February 1868. He had been a consistent member of the Baptist Church for nearly 75 years and a Mason of more than 60 years. It is the present plan to have his burial, which is to take place tomorrow, in the family burial ground, conducted under the auspices of the Masonic Lodge. Five children survive him - J.M. Holloway, Jr. and Calvin Holloway of Grayson County; Mrs. Elizabeth Crawford of Vernon, Texas; Mrs. Margaret Farrington of Bossier Parish, Louisiana; and Mrs. M.J. Allen of Gunter, Grayson County.
