Rufus Earl Dawson, 94, passed away on Wednesday, November 10, 2021. Funeral services were held at Hebron Baptist Church, Savoy (Bells) on Monday, November 15, 2021. Burial was at Hebron Cemetery immediately following the funeral service. Rufus was born in Healdton, Oklahoma and grew up in Texas and Michigan. He moved to Illinois in 1956 with his wife, Bennie. They retired to Whitewright, Texas 30 years ago. Rufus was a World War II Army veteran, worked for Rock Island Lines RR at Silvis Yards and was a retired pipe fitter at Alcoa, in his younger days he enjoyed rebuilding cars from junk to beautifully running cars, racing cars and go carts and building and riding motorcycles. He was a jack of all trades who enjoyed hunting, metal detecting and wood working. He also enjoyed fishing, including an annual tradition spanning 50 years of fishing at Lake Rathburn in Iowa. This was a rite of passage for the men of the Dawson family that he and all his male children and grandchildren looked forward to. Rufus is survived by his wife, Bennie Montgomery; children: Jimmy and wife, Eve; Sandra and husband, Ed; Martin, Donald and wife, Penny; and Kevin and wife, Paula; a very close family friend James and wife, Robin Cravens; his sister, Wanda Wesley; 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents Earl Dawson and Frances "Fannie" Jenkins; and his son, Clifford; brother-in-law, Norman "Frenchy" Wesley. - - - Fisher Funeral Home Bennie Dawson, 90, passed away Sunday, July 17, 2022 in Richland Hills, Texas. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon, July 22, 2022 at Fisher Funeral Home, Denison, Texas. Burial was at Hebron Cemetery, behind Hebron Baptist Church, Savoy, Texas, after the funeral service. Bennie Lou Montgomery Dawson was born in Celina, Texas on September 24, 1931. She married Rufus Dawson in 1948 on Bonham, Texas. They moved to Illinois in 1956 and then back to Texas when Rufus retired. They were married for 73 years. Bennie was active in her community as a volunteer while her children were growing up. Upon her husband's retirement, they traveled extensively around the United States. Bennie is survived by children: Jimmy Dawson and wife, Eve; Sandra Price and husband, Ed; Donald Dawson and wife, Penny; and Kevin Dawson and wife, Paula; 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Services were held Monday morning at Hebron Baptist, Texas, with burial at Hebron Cemetery. Arrangements were by Fisher Funeral Home, Denison, Texas. He was a 1977 graduate of United Township High School, East Moline; veteran of the U.S. Army; and currently was attending Grayson County College for his teaching certification. Survivors include his parents, Rufus and Bennie Dawson, Whitewright; sister,Sandra Price, Fort Worth, Texas; brothers, Jimmie Dawson, Tyler, Texas, Martin Dawson, Slidell, La., Donald Dawson, Rock Island, and Kevin Dawson, Moline.
