HOWE - Funeral services for Bonnie Jo Gleaves will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Howe with Pastor Roger Tidwell officiating. Mrs. Gleaves, 84, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 4, in her home.
Bonnie was born Aug. 5, 1928 in Van Alstyne to Burrell and Bonnie Lee (Crook) Howell. She attended school in Howe and Denison before graduating from Van Alstyne High School in 1945. She went on to attend North Texas State College for three years before becoming a hostess for Pioneer Airlines. She married Ector Gleaves on Oct. 14, 1954. Bonnie and Ector had known each other since childhood, and he was working as a commercial fisherman in Washington State when they became reacquainted and fell in love. The couple lived in several states while he pursued his career as a driller. They moved to Howe, Texas in 1976. Bonnie was very active in her church where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir for many years. She also worked as a substitute teacher and wrote poetry, which she loved to share.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Marie Langford, and brother Raymond Howell.
She is survived by her husband, Ector; and children, Spray Gleaves of Arlington, Jeffrey Gleaves of Sherman, Cindy Gleaves and husband, Alan Blanche of Westport, Calif.; and Janette Gleaves of Fort Worth. She is also survived by her sisters, Sarah Edith Barnett, and Rev. Dorothy Marshall.
Arrangements are under the direction of American Funeral Services, 4312 W. Crawford St. Denison, TX.
