Reburial Rites Arranged for Tony Brinkley
Military reburial services for Tony Brinkley, aviation metal smith, third class, killed in action in the Southwest Pacific in 1944, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Howe, Grayson County. The Rev. Lowell Brinkley, chaplain of the Hughes-Brinkley Legion Post of Howe will officiate. Burial will be in the Howe Cemetery. Born in Howe, Brinkley was a senior in the high school there when he enlisted in the navy in January, 1943. He was a star football player for his school and was the first of the alumni to lose his life in war service. A school annual has since been dedicated to him and the legion post bears his name. Brinkley died of wounds he received on the Island of Bougainville, where he was helping to repair American planes. Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Lillie Brinkley, 5618 Victor; a brother, Floyd Brinkley, Dallas; four sisters, Miss Iris Brinkley, Mrs. John Spears, Dallas; Mrs. B.L.
