Funeral services for Daniel Woodard Gurley, 88, who died at his home, Route 1, Sherman, after an illness of ten days, were held Friday at 4 p.m.at the Barrett Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Payne of Howe, conducted, assisted by the Rev. C. J. Graves of Sherman.
Pallbearers were Earl Taylor, P.J. Waldrop, Price McCoy, Omer C. Carbin, Virgil Fielder and Audie Wilson. Burial was in the Hall Cemetery.
Mr. Gurley was born in Union County, Illinois, June 11, 1860 the son of John and Mary Gurley. He was married to Jane Fielder in 1879. She died five years ago. He came to Grayson County in 1881. He was a member of the Baptist Church.
Survivors include, one son, J. S. Gurley, of Sherman; two daughters, Mrs. J. H. Cox, of Sherman, and Mrs. C. E. Wax of Gilliham, Arkansas; 19 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

PIONEER HOWE SETTLER DIES

Mrs. Mary Jane Gurley, 81 died at 8 p.m. Tuesday at her residence in Howe after three years of ill health and two days of critical illness.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Howe Baptist Church conducted by the Methodist minister, the Rev. C. J. Graves and the Baptist minister, the Rev. E. T. Johnson both of Howe. Interment will be in Hall Cemetery directed by Talley.
Pallbearers will be Virgil Fielder, Omer Corbin, Truett Devenport, E. T. Mode, Edd Malone and Andy Wilson.
Mrs. Gurley was born October 29, 1862 the daughter of Franklin and Sarah Snelgrove Fielder. She was married in 1879 in Erath County, Texas to D. W. Gurley, moving to Howe 65 years ago. She was a member of the Farmington Baptist Church.
Survivors are her husband; two daughters, Mrs. C. E. Wax of Arkansas; Mrs. J. H. Cox of Howe with whom she had made her home for the past six years, and one son, J. S. Gurley of Howe; 16 grandchildren and nine great grand-children. Two sons, Samuel and Ferman preceded her in death.
