James M. White 10 April 1839 - 29 July 1929 Lina White 25 November 1842 - 1 December 1888 Amarillo Globe July 30, 1929 WHITE FUNERAL WILL BE HELD THIS EVENING Pioneer to be Buried in Howe, Texas; Died Yesterday Funeral services for James M. White, 90, CIvil War veteran, Indian fighter, and Armstrong County pioneer, will be held this evening at the First Christian Church. He died yesterday at his house here, 602 Carolina Street. The body will be sent to Howe, Texas, tomorrow for burial. G.C. Schurman, pastor of the West Amarillo Christian church, will be the officiating minister. Rev. Schurman will be assisted by Clark Buckner, pastor of the First Christian Church, and E.B. Fincher, pastor of the Southern Presbyterian Church. Pallbearers will be Dr. R.L. Rogers, Frank S. Davis, A.S. Kenyon, Edgar Coble, G.R. McCasland, and W, E. Gee. Mr. White was born in Missouri, and when he was 10 years old, moved with his family to Grayson County, where he was reared on his father's ranch. There he married Miss Carolina McDonald. He lived in Grayson County until his wife died in 1899, when he moved to Claude. There he married Mary E. Black. He was one of the first settlers in Claude and built the first hotel there, then the second finest in the Panhandle. In 1900 Mr. White moved to Amarillo, where he lived until the time of his death. He was a member of the Christian Church. He is survived by his wife, Mary White; 2 son, J.W. White of Uvalde, Texas; and William F. White of Cabello, New Mexico; 3 daughters, Mrs. N.E. Copeland of Amarillo; Mrs. C.C. Gilbert of Claude; and Mrs. W.E. O'Neal of Wilde----; and stepdaughter, Mrs. S.P. Vineyard of Amarillo.
