Sunday, May 17, 1896 pg. 1 A TORNADO Carries Death and Destruction in its Wake Howe - The tornado struck Howe about 4:30. Its course was northeast and swept a path a quarter of a mile wide. Crops were destroyed on both sides of town and many cattle killed. J.J. Johnson, eight miles southwest, was badly hurt and his wife killed. Six others in that vicinity are reported dead.
