HALL CEMETERY WILL GET HISORIC MARKER
A Texas Historical Marker will be erected June 10 at Hall Cemetery on Hall Cemetery Road, three miles west of Howe, according to J.C. Taliaferro of Sherman, chairman of the Grayson County Historical Survey Committee.
Hall Cemetery is located on land patented by Anderson White on a certificate issued April 23, 1850 by Peters Colony, an immigration project which had received a large land grant in this region from the Republic of Texas.
The burial plot was begun January 6, 1857 upon the death of White's daughter, Sarah White Haning.  One week later on January 13 a second grave was added, that of Haning's mother, Rachel PIerce Haning.
In June 1857 White sold his land in this area, but reserved two acres surrounding the burial site. deeded April 1859 to trustees for a public cemetery.
Among those buried in the cemetery are the first settlers of this part of Grayson county, who migrated to Texas from the eastern United States, a number of veterans of the Army of the Confederate States of America, and several victims of the great Sherman tornado of May 15, 1896.
The marking of local historic sites and landmarks is part of the Texas State Historical Survey Committee's program of preservation activities.  Made of cast aluminum with Swedish steel effect. the marker measures 27 by 42 inches and is sponsored by the Hall Cemetery Association.
