Michael Joe DeFratus, Sr. was born February 6, 1955 in Sherman, Texas to Sonny and Rosie DeFratus. At the age of 58, on October 4, 2013, he passed away from this life surrounded by his family and friends.
The family will receive visitors 6-8 pm on Sunday, October 6 at Johnson-Moore Pottsboro Chapel.
Services for Mike will be held 10:00 am, Monday,  October 7, 2013 at Pottsboro Church of Christ. Brother Bob Scholl and Brother Greg Knight will officiate. Burial will follow in Hagerman Cemetery.
Mike married Betty Nichols on February 25, 1978. He is survived by his wife, Betty DeFratus of Pottsboro; son, Joe DeFratus of Princeton; daughter, Jessica Hackworth and her husband, Chris, of Sherman and granddaughter, Caty Hackworth. He is also survived by his brother, Darrell DeFratus of Durango, CO; sister, Patricia Horn and her husband, Andy, of Achilles, OK, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and special friends, Bob and Patsy Sholl of Sherman.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents.
Mike was baptized at the age of 10 and faithfully served as a deacon of the Pottsboro Church of Christ for many years. Mike was loved for his benevolence, giving heart and willingness to help others. He was a devoted husband, father and grandpa, who set a Christian example for all who knew him.
Mike proudly served for 30 years as a member of the Arlington Fire Department and retired in 2008. He was a apparatus operator who loved driving the "big red trucks". Mike was a member of the Critical Incident Stress Management team and ended his career training rookie firefighters.
