  Tommy Darrell Reed, 84, of Gunter, Texas passed away on January 3, 2021 at WNJ Hospital. He was born April 14, 1936 in Gunter, Texas, son of William Edgar Reed and Leda Stroud Reed. Tommy was a life time resident of Gunter, Texas. He graduated from Gunter High School in 1954. He spent most of his working career as a welder fabricator for Taylor Tank Co. in Gunter, Texas and Texas Manufacture in Whitesboro, Texas where he retired after many years. He enjoyed fishing, family and fiddling. He was a self-taught fiddler who began learning on a fiddle passed down from his Aunt Lou Reed that belonged to his great-uncle Robert Rutherford. He played in various fiddle contests with his friend, the late J.C. Payne of Gunter, Texas. He was married to his sweetheart Mary Francis Thomas for 63 years. Tommy is survived by his w ife, Mary Thomas Reed, of Gunter, Texas; daughter, Ginny Reed Wise and husband, John, of McKinney, Texas; daughter, Dara Reed Arrington and husband, Dean, of Gunter, Texas; daughter, Jodie Reed Smith and husband, Jason, of Texarkana, Texas; brothers, Robert Reed and wife, Nell, of Collinsville, Texas; and Curtis Reed and wife, Dorothy of Gunter, Texas; grandchildren, Jared Burfield, Michael Burfield, Viviana Burfield, Joshua Arrington, Lindsey Arrington, Jacob Arrington, Jordan Ateek, CJ Ateek, Reed Smith, and Grayson Smith; great-grandsons, Carter Arrington and Cash Arrington; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Tommy was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John L. Reed and wife, Loveta Reed; and in-laws, Dee and Sallie Thomas; sister-in-law, Vivian Thomas Armstrong; and brother-in-law, Winston Wester. Services were held Wednesday morning, January 6, 2021 at Scoggins Funeral Home in Van Alstyne, Texas. Burial was at Gunter Cemetery.
