Cates, 86, a long time resident of Delta County, passed away at Reed Memorial Hospital Monday morning, February 8, 1960 about 5:30 o'clock. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Holiness chapel in Cooper, Rev. Hugh Tomlinson officiated. Interment was made in Oak Lawn Cemetery. (Find-A-Grave #43318412) Francis Lafayette Cates was born October 9, 187e in Missouri. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. F.L. Cates, Cooper; 4 daughters, Mrs. Rube Bennington, Commerce; Mrs. J.H. Grant, San Antonio; Mrs. W.H. Thornton, Soccona, New Mexico; and Mrs. George Adams, Corpus Christi; 3 sons, Clarence Cates, San Antonio; Eunice Cates, Alabama; Elmer Cates, Tulia; 33 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a number of step-children; one half-brother and 3 half-sisters. Pallbearers were Henry Kerbow, Paul Cates, Floyd Fulton, Lloyd Fulton, S.W. Crumbley, and Homer Lair.
