GORDONVILLE - Funeral services for Joe Allen McCarty, 71, will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009 at Meador Funeral Home Chapel in Whitesboro with Rev. Jack Wallace officiating. A private interment will follow at Gordonville Cemetery. There will be no formal visitation.
Joe passed away on Thursday, Nov. 26, 2009 at Wilson N. Jones Medical Center in Sherman.
He was born on Oct. 7, 1938 in Electra to Ivan McCarty and Nellie (Burden) McCarty. Joe married Dorothy Staples on Feb. 23, 1963 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He served in the U.S. Air Force. Joe was a doctor of dental surgery, graduating from Baylor Dental College. Joe practiced dentistry in San Bernardino, Calif. for many years, retiring in 1991. He moved to Gordonville in 1995. Joe was an avid reader, owning a beautiful collection of hardcover books. He was a member of the 1st United Methodist Church in Whitesboro and a member of the American Legion in Gainesville. Joe was proud of his yard and loved the Dallas Cowboys.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy McCarty of Gordonville; a daughter, Vicky Clouse and husband, Dean of Lompoc, Calif.; grandchildren, Traci Soby and husband, John, and James Clouse and wife, Misty; great-grandchildren, Arielle Koury, Morgan Murray, and Gavin Clouse.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Jerry Lynn McCarty.
