August 22, 1942 Pottsboro Officer Killed i n England, Parents Notified Denison, Texas, Aug. 21 - Mr. and Mrs. Arthur H. Sharpe of Pottsboro have been officially notified by the War Department that their son , Lieut. Earl L. Sharpe, was killed August 11, in England. No details of the accident were divulged. Lt. Sharpe was reported missing a week ago. He received his wings and commission in the Army Air Corps February 20, 1942 at Victoria. He received his basic training at Randolph Field. Lt. Sharpe went to England 6 weeks ago and was an Army pursuit pilot. He was a student at Southeastern State College before he entered the Air Corps. Besides his parents, he is survived by a brother, Aviation Cadet Richard Sharpe, Lowry Field, Colorado; and a sister, Mrs. James C. Gallatin of Odessa. Dallas Morning News August 25, 1942 Pottsboro Youth Killed Flying In Britain Pottsboro, Texas, Aug. 24 - According to information received from the War Department, Lt. Earl L. Sharpe, an Army pursuit pilot and son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur H. Sharpe of the Georgetown community, was killed August 11, in the British Isles. The Sharpes were informed that the youth's death occurred during a training period and not during actual combat duty. Lt. Sharpe left the United States 6 weeks ago. A graduate of Denison High School, Lt. Sharpe was a student at Durant Teachers College before enlisting in the Army Air Forces. Surviving are his parents; a brother, Aviation Cadet Richard Sharpe, Lowry Field, Colorado; and a sister, Mrs. James C. Gallatin, Odessa.
