Bob Potts 27 January 1843 - 13 July 1924 July 15, 1924 BOB POTTS, FOUNDER OF TOWN OF POTTSBORO, DIES Special to The News Sherman, Tex., July 14 - Bob Potts, pioneer of Grayson County and founder of the town of Pottsboro, northwest of Sherman, died at his home there early Sunday morning at the age of 81. Mr. Potts was born in Cherokee, Ala., on Jan. 27, 1843. He located in Grayson County in early manhood and lived near the town of Pottsboro all of his life. For many years he was engaged as a merchant there. When the Civil War broke out he enlisted in the Confederate Army. He had never missed a Confederate reunion until the one held this year in Memphis, Tenn., which found him too feeble to make the journey. He had been in declining health for several months due to the infirmities of his years. Mr. Potts was never married. He is survived by Mrs. Ellen Bennett of Whitesboro, and by several nieces and nephews living in and around Pottsboro. Among these are H.C. Potts, well-known merchant of that place. Funeral services were held at 5 o'clock Sunday afternoon from the late home, conducted by Rev. J.E. Vinson. Burial was in Georgetown Cemetery near Pottsboro.
