William M. Bates, 74, of 1024 W. DuBois, who died at his home Saturday after 8 years of illness. Rev. Preston Bryan of Pottsboro, assisted by Rev. Sam Allenbaugh of Cherry Mound, officiated at the service, which was held in the Pottsboro Baptist Church. Bates was born in Monticello, Kentucky, January 21, 1880. He was married in the Locust community in 1900 to Sadie Baker. He had farmed in the Pottsboro and Locust communities for over 50 years. He was a member of the Pottsboro Baptist Church. Survivors are his widow; four sons, Floyd, Hubert and Earnest of Locust, and Amos of Denison; three daughters, Mrs. May Britt of Cherry Mound; Mrs. Mildred Rawlins of Levelland; and Mrs. Ruby Friend of Sussix, Wisconsin; two brothers, Charlie Bates of Richmond, Virginia and Reuben Bates of Susie, Kentucky; 27 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were grandsons of the deceased: J.W. Weldon, Clinton and Darrell Wayne Bates, Ivan Hugh Davidson, Jimmie Faulkner, and Junior Alexander. DuBois, died at the home of her son, Floyd, in Pottsboro Saturday, March 17, at 8:55 a.m., after three years of illness. Funeral services were held in the Pottsboro Baptist Church Sunday afternoon at 3 with Funderburk Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Services were conducted by Rev. Preston Bryan assisted by Rev. Sam Allenbaugh of Cherry Mound, and interment was in Georgetown cemetery. Pallbearers were Dennis Britt, Darrell Bates, Vick Bates, Doc Bates, J.W. Bates, Rayneil Bates, Clinton Bates and Ivan H. Davidson, all grandsons of the deceased. Mrs. Bates was born in Fayetteville, Arkansas, May 14, 1879, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.M. Baker. She was married in Locust, Texas, August 21, 1900. She was a member of the Baptist church. Survivors include four sons, Floyd and Hubert of Pottsboro; Earnes of Locust; and Amos of Denison; three daughters, Mrs. Mae Britt of Cherry Mound; Mrs. Mildred Rawlins of Levelland; and Mrs. Ruby Fround of Salem, Wisconsin; a brother, G.B. Baker of Denison and a half-brother, Earl Baker, of Las Vegas, New Mexico; two sisters, Mrs. E.C. Brogden of Denison; and Mrs. Cloe Jacobs of Pottsboro; 27 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
