The Denison Daily Herald Wednesday, October 3, 1906 Miss Maud Leeper Dead End Came at her Home in Pottsboro Yesterday Evening Pottsboro, Texas, October 3 - Miss Maud Leeper, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.R. Leeper, died last evening at 7:30 o'clock at her home at this place, after a lingering illness of 3 years from tuberculosis, 8 months of that time being a complete invalid. The funeral will be held at the Methodist Chruch at 2 o'clock, after which the remains will be turned over to the Sisters of Rebekah, and interment will occur at 4 o'clock at Georgetown cemetery. Miss Leeper was born at Chillicothe, Missouri. She came to Texas with her parents 13 years ago, and located at Big Springs, where they lived 2 years, coming later to Pottsboro, where she had continuously resided with the exception of one year spent teaching at Capital Hill Seminary. Miss Leeper became manager of the local telephon service when it was first installed at Pottsboro, which position she held up to the time of her death, her duties having been taken by her brother, Paul, when the dread disease confined her to her home. Miss Leeper had been a member of the Methodist Church since childhood, was for a number of years a leader in the Epworth League and Sunday school of this place, and was one of the strongest Christian characters in this vicinity. The entire town is bowed in grief at her death, though the end has been expected for some time. She was a member of the Rebekah lodge, under whose auspices the funeral services were conducted. Besides her bereaved parents, the decedent leaves 3 brothers, Paul B. Leeper of Pottsboro and Fred Watkin Leeper of Big Springs, Texas; and a host of other relatives and friends. Mr. and Mrs. Walton J. Leeper of Denison arrived this afternoon to attend the funeral of their cousin.
