Pottsboro ~ Services for Dan T. Campbell, 85, of Pottsboro, who died Friday July 16, 1999, at his residence, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 19, 1999 in Johnson-Moore Pottsboro Chapel.
Ken Beard and Ron Beard will officiate.  Burial will be in Georgetown Cemetery.
Mr. Campbell was born October 3, 1913, at Pottsboro, the son of George W. and Angie Ashley Campbell.  He married Rose Jay on June 14, 1941, in Corpus Christi.
Mr. Campbell joined the US Army First Cavalry in 1937, known as the "Horse Cavalry", serving under Gen. Douglas McArthur in Australia, New Guinea, Leyte Island and Luzon Island.  He also served three years in occupied Japan and three years in Germany.  He retired as a Master Sergeant in 1958 from Ft. Hood.  The family moved back to the family homestead in 1959 and began a twenty year career with the U.S. Corps of Engineers .  He became known as "Bluebonnet Dan" during the 1960s because he was instrumental in spreading the state flower around the Denison Dam.  He was a true American, a great story teller and historian of the "Good Ole Days" and the "Real Army".  He was full of humor and wit and always wanted everyone to be happy and love each other.  He was a Baptist and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.  He was a wonderful friend, Father, Husband, and Papa who will be dearly missed.
Surviving are his wife, Rose Campbell of Pottsboro; son, Daniel T. Campbell Jr. of Pottsboro; daughters, Betty S. Campbell of Whitewright, Betty Jo Kampa of Austin and Shirley Williams of Sylmar, California; brother James Campbell of Denison; sister Ola Allen of Denison; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.  
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Smith.
The family will be at the residence.
