Paul Coburn 27 October 1939 - 26 June 2011 Carolyn Coburn 23 September 1939 - 6 September 2010 Paul Dwayne Coburn 1939 - 2011 US Air Force The Herald Democrat September 8, 2010 POTTSBORO - Carolyn "Carol" Sue Lester Coburn, 70-year-old Pottsboro resident, passed away Monday, September 6, 2010 at her home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 9 at the Denison Church of the Nazarene. Officiating were Pastor David Pettigrew and Pastor Dolon Stevenson. Burial followed at Georgetown Cemetery. Mrs. Coburn was born on September 23, 1939 in Wheeler, the daughter of Glen and Edna Faye Helton Lester, and graduated from Briscoe High School. She married Paul Coburn on May 25, 1957 in Mineola. She was a homemaker and a member of the Denison Church of the Nazarene. Pallbearers were Dewayne Coburn, Tim Law, Barry Coburn, Ron Edwards, Brian Rushing and Steve Ogletree. Honorary pallbearers were Rebecca Backschies, John Birkhead and Cathy Zeis. Surviving are her husband, Paul Coburn of Pottsboro; sons, Robert Coburn of Irving and John Coburn of Pollock, La.; daughter, Nevaeh Coburn of Pottsboro; sister, Beverly Cranston of Denison; five grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother Gary Lester. Carol was never fond of flowers she could not see, but she believed strongly that teens and young men could be delivered from addiction to drugs and alcohol. She was a long-time supporter of the Teen Challenge, a Bible-based rehabilitation program that has a proven record of success. She has requested that in lieu of flowers, to honor her memory, gifts be made to Teen Challenge of Dallas, Inc., P.O. Box 181794, Dallas, Texas 75218. Herald Democrat June 29, 2011 Paul Dwayne Coburn was born on October 27, 1939 in Madisionville, Texas to parents Henry Webster and Vashti Coburn. He was the youngest of their eight children. The family made a fateful move to the town of Mineola, Texas where he met the love of his life Carolyn Lester. Even though both were only 17 it was true love at first sight. Ten months later on May 25, 1957, Carolyn and Paul were married in a ceremony performed by her father. The new family lived and worked in Mineola until the military call came for Paul in 1961 and 2 small-town kids traveled to parts of the world they never imagined possible, Paul and Carolyn making friends all along the way. Paul served his country in the Air Force as a Russian translator based in Germany. In Germany they adopted a son, Robert. After the military they came back to Texas and adopted another son, John, and settled in to the routine of work and raising a family. Six years ago they adopted their granddaughter, Nevaeh. Paul and Carolyn were married for 53 wonderful years. Paul Dwayne Coburn died June 26, 2011. He is survived by his brothers Carlton Coburn of Tyler; John Coburn of Mineola; two sons, Robert Coburn of Irving; John Coburn of Pollock, Louisiana; and one daughter, Nevaeh Coburn of Pottsboro. One sister-in-law, Beverly Cranston, of Denison, five grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside memorial service was Thursday June 30, 2011 at Georgetown Cemetery with Rev. Dave Pettigrew officiating. Military service were conducted by Sheppard AFB. Funeral arrangements are by Johnson-Moore Funeral Home. He has requested that in lieu of flowers to honor his memory that gifts be made to: Teen Challenge of Dallas, Inc. P.O. Box 181794 Dallas, Texas 75218 He is now rejoicing in the presence of the Lord but he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
