James C. McDonald

James was born in Washington, D.C., the son of Chief Warrant Officer Carson McDonald and Catherine McDonald. He passed away at his home in Pottsboro, Texas.

After the divorce of his parents, James was sent to Subiaco Academy (a Catholic School) Subiaco, Arkansas. He was sent to live with his maternal uncle, John McKenna, in Brady, Nebraska.
He graduated from Brady High School and subsequently joined the U.S. Navy in 1962. He was initially a radioman. After successful completion of the fleet wide exam, he was selected for flight training and commissioned as a USNR Ensign in 1964. He completed two tours aboard the aircraft carrier USS Bennington (CVS-20), flying the S2E aircraft, in and around North Vietnam until his resignation from the Navy.
Following the completion of his military service, he was a pilot for Delta Airlines for over 25 years. He flew the Conair 880, DC9, DC8, B727 and the B737.
On 17 February 1968 he married Miss Alice M. Chapman of Millbury, Massachusetts. They were blessed with two sons John (6/70) and Michael (10/72) and one daughter, Jennifer (7/76).
James served several years on the Pottsboro City Council and did many hours of volunteer work for the city.
He was a member of Lakeway United Methodist Church, Disable American Veterans and VFW Post No. 2773.
He was preceded in death by his parents and uncles John and Leo McKenna.
He was survived by his wife of 37 years, Alice McDonald of Pottsboro; son John McDonald and wife Mary of Bonham, Texas, son Michael McDonald and wife Tammy, stationed in Yokosuka, Japan; daughter Jennifer McDonald of Denton, Texas as well as grandson David McDonald and granddaughters Emily and Sydney.
Funeral services were held at Lakeway United Methodist Church.
His son John sums up his father's life stating the "He was a stand up person, a lover of mathematics and not at all pretentious. He loved and honored his father."
