Sherman Democrat March 24, 2002 pg A-22 Corporal Howard was a World War II Army veteran. He was a combat engineer. He fought in two campaigns, the Battle for Remagen Bridge and the Battle of Southern Germany. He served under General Omar Bradley. After serving his country he came back home to Pottsboro, Texas and started his plumbing business. At the time of his passing, he was the oldest living license Master Plumber in the State of Texas. He was the owner of Grayson Pumping Service for over 50 years and manufactured his own septic thanks (Howard & Cast). He was the owner of his own Public Utility Water System called Howard and Son Walter for 46 years that supplied water to 62 homes on Pearce Drive and Highway 120, Pottsboro. The Herald Democrat 17 January 2010 POTTSBORO - Graveside services for Martha E. Howard, 88, of Pottsboro will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010, in Georgetown Cemetery. Dr. Roddy Arnold will officiate, and arrangements are under the direction of Johnson-Moore Funeral Home. She died Friday, Jan. 15, 2010, at her residence. Mrs. Howard was born Sept. 10, 1921, in Sherman, the daughter of Carl and Jewel Varie Bell Foster, Sr. She graduated from Sherman High School and Grayson County College School of Nursing. She was a licensed vocational nurse. She married Billy Howard in December 1940. He died March 21, 2002. Mrs. Howard and her husband established Howard and Son Plumbing Company and then Mrs. Howard became an LVN at several nursing homes and retired from Chapel of Care. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Pottsboro and the Eastern Star. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. Mrs. Howard also loved her dogs and was an avid bingo player. Surviving are her daughters, Lisa Scudiero of Dallas, Carol Melton of Aubrey, Jennifer Noel of Denison and Dorothy Upton of Pottsboro; brother, Clifford Foster and wife Kathy of Sherman; sisters, Margaret Williams of Sherman, Rosa Hayden and husband James of Denison and Mary Allison of Sherman; grandchildren, Valerie Gotcher, Ashley Scudiero, Jordon McDonald and Toby Upton; and great-grandchildren, Avarie Gotcher and Miles McFarland.
