If you are reading this that means that one or more of my health issues or too many birthdays finally got me! Don't be sad. She passed away Tuesday, August 17, 2021. I had one heck of a life, mistakes and all. Instead think of something funny I said, how much money I raised for Cancer aid and research, lip syncing Bette Midler's "When a Man Loves a Woman, " remember a killer outfit and one of my hats. I was born in Amarillo, Texas on Monday, June 8, 1936. The older of 2 daughters born to Ethel Moser and Doug Jones. I was named after 2 of my mother's sisters, Anne Mae and Ada Lee. Graduate from Brownfield High School inn 1954, I was in the high school band, starred in the junior and senior plays, won the Amerian Legion Oratory Award as a Sophomore and speaker at the Junior/Senior Banquet as a Junior. From the 1960s into the early 1970s I did a lot of home canning. The reason why I am telling you this is, despite my Dad's laughter when I purchased my first pressure cooker, I entered my canned goods in the State Fair of Texas going on to win countless ribbons, blue, red, white and gold, to include 16 First place Blue Ribbons on the last year I entered. I have had many accomplishments that I could talk for days about. The old saying, "If you can remember the 60s and 70s you weren't there." In my case it wasn't drugs, just too many birthdays. Back then there was no glass ceiling; it was made of steel because of my believs on non-conforming my girls have a better chance to break that glass ceiling. I was part of the NOW (National Organization of Women) movement and contributed to the writing of the charter and bylaws which were later included in the the ones adopted by NOW. Looking through my collection of campaign buttons, guess what, there were no Republican ones. I was a Precinct Chairman for 1972 to 1979. I served on the Board of the Dallas County Democratic Executive Committee and served on the Board of the Dallas County Democratic Progressive Voters League and was known as an activist. The Board of the Dallas County Democrat Progressive Voters League was a majority Black organization. I as a member of the North Dallas Democratic Women when Ann Richards was a member as well. March of 1973, I served on Lt. Governor Bill Hobby's citizen's conference on Ethics in Austin. In July of 1973, I also served on the commission of Delegate Selection in Denver. Most importatnly, I was a girl scout leader for the two older daughters and candy chairman for two of my younger girls who were Camp Fire Girls. I was a member of Woodrow Wilson PTA. I served on the Board of Robert E. Lee Elementary Schooll PTA. In 1976 I was elected to the State Democrat Executive Committee from the 16th Senatorial; there were 31 of us state wide. I was a member when we put horse racing on the ballot. Also, in 1976, I was a "Who's Who" in American Politics. My first union of marriage produced 3 children, Ann Marie, Myrna Dawn and Douglas Wayne. I married Rob Roy Junior in 1962, This marriageproduced 3 more daughters, Sylvia Lucille, Roberta Lee, and Brighid Eileen. Rob passed away in May 1979; with this loss, I moved back to Lake Texoma. I was the first President of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Preston Pottsboro Elks and the first sweetheart. I joined the VFW in 1979 and was a charter member of the Lake Texoma VFW 7873 Ladies Auxiliary and served as the first President, trustee for several years, president again, and treasurer for several more years. I also joined the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and transferred to the MIA post 231 in 1997. I went to work at the Denison Walmart in the deli and retired in 2012 after 15 years. Preceded in death by her parents; her infant son, Douglas Wayne; her sister, Myrtice Jones, Rob Roy Junior and Pete Anderson, she is survived by daughters, Ann and husband, Lou Lefas;Myrna Collins; Sylvia and Larry Carter; Robbie Youngblood; Brighid and Bobby Flanagan; and 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildlren. The four most important things in my life were my family, my friends, the Dallas Cowboys, and the Democrat Party, not always in that order. The service was held Saturday afternoon, Ausgust 21, 2021 at Fishers Funeral Home in Denison, Texas, The burial was at Georgetown Cemetery, so ladies don your hats in celebration of my life. "My Grand Finale" was at the American Legion Post 231. Pallbearers were Phillip Lefas, Chris Lefas, Waco Youngblood, Sioux Bolen, Austin McLemore, and Bobby Flanagan. Honorary pallbearers were Lou Lefas, Larry Carter, and Joel Allen.
