T.A. Carrell
Pottsboro - On Friday, October 4, 2013, beloved husband and father, T.A. Carrell, passed away at Texoma Medical Center.
A graveside service were held at Tuesday afternoon at Georgetown Cemetery in Pottsboro.  No time was set for family visitation.
T.A. was born June 23, 1926 in Delta County near Ben Franklin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas A. Carrell.  T.A. grew up with a hard-working philosophy that began on the farm with a blacksmith father, and always stayed with him.  He joined the U.S. Navy at the tender age of 17, did a tour of the South Pacific on the USS Queens during World War II, and was among the lucky ones who survived the battle of Iwo Jima.  During the Korean War, he returned to serve two more years aboard the USS Hass, a destroyer escort whose primary job was protecting ships in convoy.
In his civilian life, T.A. was self-employed in floor-covering installation for 40 years, sweating on his hands and knees every day to support his family.  His hobbies and ways to relax included barbership quartet, playing his guitar, fishing, traveling in his motor home from coast to coast and caring for his yard.  It seemed that everyone who knew him loved him - he was just that kind of man.
He was preceded in death by both parents; 3 sisters, Rosie Lee Crouch, Mary Shaw, and Doris Swain; and his brother, Ernest Carrell.
He is survived by his wife, Gay E. (Briery) Carrell of Pottsboro; son, Thomas J. Carrell of Hendersonville, North Carolina; and daughter, Sylvia E. Carrell of Marshall.  Survivors also include a long list of nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fisher Funeral Home, Denison.

Gay Evelyn Carrell, 86, passed away Friday, January 8, 2016 at Harbor Hospice Facility in Houston, Texas.
Mrs. Carrell was born December 7, 1929 in Gary, Texas, the beloved daughter of William Bryan and Lottie Mae (Wiltcher) Briery.  Mrs. Carrell was a member of the First Baptist Church of Pottsboro.  She enjoyed her precious dog, Niki, taking care of her home, gardening and socializing with her many friends.
Mrs. Carrell leaves behind her beloved niece and caregiver, Joy Merchant and husband, Tom, of El Lago, Texas; Jean Watson of San Jose, California; stepdaughter, Sylvia Carrell of Marshall, Texas; stepson, Thomas J. Carrell of Hendersonville, North Carolina; nieces, Melba Dawkins of Lubbock, Texas; Rebecca and Ken Routon, of Campbell, California; Linda and Jerry Totty of Glenpool, Oklahoma; Martha Elizabeth and Wesley Boren of Carthage, Texas; nephews, John and Margaret Barnhart of MIssouri City, Texas; Bryan and Karen Barnhart of Athens, Texas; Wayne and Yvonne Harvey of Longview, Texas; William Owen and Rhonda Harvey of Buna, Texas; Richard Watson and Rich Pucci of San Francisco, California; and Mike and Candace Watson of Springfield, Oregon; numerous great-nieces and nephews; cousin, Robbie Beck of Nacogdoches, Texas; and a wealth of friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, T.A. Carrell; parents; sisters, Geneva and Cotton Barnhart; Annie Elizabeth and Burtis Owen Harvey; and brother, Ervin Briery.
